Meridian Public School District proudly hosted its Breakfast of Champions on February 4, 2026, bringing together community partners, coaches, and student-athletes for a morning of gratitude and connection.

Meridian High School senior girls basketball standout BaLeigh Hedgemon has officially taken her talents to the next level. Hedgemon announced she will continue her academic and athletic career at Tougaloo College during a signing ceremony held Friday, January 30, 2026, in the MHS Multipurpose Building.

Meridian High School Soccer paused the pace of competition to celebrate its senior players during a special Senior Night held Tuesday, January 13, 2026, as the Wildcats faced the Brandon Bulldogs.

The MHS Bowling Team celebrated seniors during a recent home match. The Wildcat Bowlers will next play in Regionals on Tuesday, January 20, 2026.

The Meridian High School Indoor Track and Field Team competed in the Holiday Invitational Indoor Track Meet in Birmingham, Ala. on Saturday, December 13, 2025.

The MHS Chess Team gained valuable experience participating in the CES Chess Championship in Oxford, MS, on December 13, 2025. Players were rated individually for the tournament, meaning that schools were not scored as a team. The Wildcats had four players win individual awards during the event.

Meridian High School football player Corey McCann announced his decision to continue his academic and athletic career at Clark-Atlanta University during a ceremony held today in the MHS Multipurpose Building.

Meridian High School senior softball player Alaysia Barlow signed with Oakwood University in Huntsville, Alabama, on Wednesday, December 10, 2025. Barlow will continue her academic and athletic career as a student-athlete, marking an exciting next chapter in her journey.

MERIDIAN, MS. – The Meridian Public School District Board of Trustees voted on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, to approve Tony A. Vance as the new Head Football Coach for Meridian High School. Coach Vance brings more than two decades of experience as a successful educator, leader, and football coach across Mississippi and Alabama.

The Meridian High School community came together Friday night, September 12, 2025, to honor two legendary Wildcat football teams. During halftime of the Wildcats’ game against Starkville, members of the 1985 and 1990 MHS State Championship teams were recognized for their lasting impact on the program and the legacy they left for future generations.

The Meridian High School Wildcats football team pulled out a heart-stopping 31-30 victory over the visiting Neshoba Central Rockets on Friday, September 5, 2025, at Ray Stadium.

The Meridian High School Boys 4x200 Meter Relay team was celebrated in a special ring ceremony on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. in the MHS Multipurpose Building. The Wildcats captured the top spot on May 3, 2025, at the MHSAA 7A State Track Meet.

The Meridian Public School District family is deeply saddened by the passing of Michael “Chico” Brooks, who gave more than 50 years of service to Meridian High School and Wildcat Athletics.

The MHS Boys Track team finished first overall out of thirteen teams, while the Lady Cats finished 2nd overall our of thirteen teams.

The Meridian High school girls and boys powerlifting teams had a great day on the platform over the last two days at the MHSAA State Powerlifting Championships.

We had the chance to recognize our Senior Band Members before the start of the Wildcats' football game against Harrison Central on Friday, October 4, 2024. Thank you to these students for their contributions to the "Greatest Band In All The Land."

MHS won its third straight game with a 31-17 victory over Harrison Central last Friday. Quarterback Corey McCann was 8 for 15 passing with 131 passing yards with two touchdowns. He also ran for 61 yards.

The Lady Wildcat Volleyball team picked up a 3-1 win over the visiting Tigers from Southeast Lauderdale on Senior Night.

The Mississippi Scholastic Chess Association (MSCA) held its annual State Championship Cup on Saturday, March 9, 2024, in Starkville, Mississippi. This event is considered the organization’s largest and most representative tournament for chess in the state of Mississippi.

Meridian High School Boys’ Basketball Coach Ron Norman has been named the 2024 Mississippi Association of Coaches Boys’ Basketball Coach of the Year.

The Meridian High Wildcats became the first MHSAA Boys’ 7A State Basketball champions with a thrilling 54-50 win over the Clinton Arrows on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at the Mississippi Coliseum.

The MHS #1 Boys Doubles team of Kayden Brooks and William Dickerson defeated Brandon in straight sets 6-6(7-5),6-4 in tennis action on March 1, 2024.

Leap Year proved to be lucky for the Meridian High Boys’ Basketball team as they will play for a State Championship for the first time since 2018. 

The Wildcats defeated Ocean Springs in the MHSAA 7A Quarterfinals on Saturday, February 24, 2024, on the campus of Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. 

The Wildcats and Lady Wildcats took home 2nd place overall in the Hattiesburg High School Track Meet that took place on Thursday, February 22, 2024, on the campus of Hattiesburg High School.

The Meridian High School Tennis team began its season with a match against Wayne County High School.

The Meridian High School Boys' Basketball team captured the MHSAA Boys Region 3 7A District Championship with a 56-51 victory over Brandon on Friday, February 9, 2024.

The Meridian High Wildcats and Lady Wildcats are hosting the 2024 MHSAA 7A Region 3 Basketball Tournaments beginning Monday, February 5, 2024. 

The 2024 MPSD Middle School Basketball City Championships took place on Thursday, January 25, 2024, on the campus of Meridian High School. The 7th and 8th-grade teams from Magnolia Middle School hit the hardwood to see who would have Queen City bragging rights.

Coach Shelton Gandy was officially welcomed as the New Head Football Coach of the Meridian High School Wildcats during an introductory press conference on Monday, January 22, 2024. Coach Gandy greeted the MHS football players, fans, and the media during the event, which was held in the MHS Multipurpose Building. The Wildcats will open the 2024 football season at Ray Stadium against Quitman.

MERIDIAN, MS, January 18, 2024 - Meridian Public School District is excited to announce Shelton Gandy as the new head football coach of the Meridian High School Wildcats.  Gandy’s hiring was approved by the MPSD Board of Trustees during their regular monthly meeting on Thursday, January 18, 2024.

Oxford, MS - (January 16, 2024) – Today, the Mississippi Excellence in Coaching Fellowship announced the 25 Coaches who have been selected for the 2023-24 class. The Coaching Fellowship, also known as Tomorrow’s 25, is hosted by the University of Mississippi School of Education in partnership with the Mississippi Association of Coaches (MAC) and the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA). Its mission is to annually select and invest in 25 coaches from across the state who have been deemed an emerging leader in the area of high school and middle school athletics.

Congratulations to MHS’ Daniel Hill on announcing that he will continue his athletic and academic career at the University of Alabama. Hill made his decision at the start of the 4th quarter of the All-American Bowl on Saturday, January 6, 2024.

MERIDIAN, MS, December 8, 2023 - The Meridian Public School District Board of Trustees accepted the resignation of Marcus Boyles, the Meridian High School Football coach, in a special called meeting of the MPSD Board of Trustees on Friday, December 8, 2023.

The Meridian High Bowling team returned home to face Pearl in MHSAA Bowling action on Thursday, November 30, 2023.

The MHS Boys beat Pearl by a total pin score of 2296 to 2159. Jonathan Scarbrough led the boys bowling at 194, while Jabralen McClendon was two pins off Scarbrough's pace with 192.

The Magnolia Middle School Football team reclaimed the City Football Championship with a 30-14 victory over Northwest Middle School on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, at Ray Stadium.

The MHS football team welcomed Oak Grove to Ray Stadium on Friday, October 6, 2023. The Wildcats lost a hard-fought contest to the Warriors 45-35, falling to 3-4 on the year.

The 1966-67 Wildcats of Mississippi Hall of Fame Coach Bob Tyler was the most dominant high school football team in Mississippi during the 1960s. MHS won two Big 8 Championships, and two State Championships and was ranked No. 5 nationally by Scholastic Roto magazine over the two-year period.

The Meridian High Wildcats return to the playoffs for the first time in six years when they travel to face Ocean Springs in the first round of the MHSAA 7A Football Playoffs on Friday, November 10, 2023.
