MERIDIAN, MS — MHS Boys Assistant Basketball Kenton Wheaton became the latest in a long line of MHS coaches to be named to the Tomorrow’s 25 Coaching Fellowship. 

The Tomorrow’s 25 Coaching Fellowship, in partnership with the Mississippi Association of Coaches (MAC) and the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA), formally announced the newest class of 25 Coaches who have been selected to participate in Mississippi’s signature program for athletic leadership on February 5, 2026.

History was written under the lights on Monday, February 9, 2026, as the Meridian High School Lady Wildcats softball team played its first regular season games ever on the MHS campus. The long-anticipated moment marked a new chapter for MHS Athletics, bringing the sights and sounds of softball home for the very first time.

Meridian High School senior girls basketball standout BaLeigh Hedgemon has officially taken her talents to the next level. Hedgemon announced she will continue her academic and athletic career at Tougaloo College during a signing ceremony held Friday, January 30, 2026, in the MHS Multipurpose Building.

2026 MHS Bowling Seniors

The MHS Bowling Team celebrated seniors during a recent home match. The Wildcat Bowlers will next play in Regionals on Tuesday, January 20, 2026.

The MHS Chess Team gained valuable experience participating in the CES Chess Championship in Oxford, MS, on December 13, 2025. Players were rated individually for the tournament, meaning that schools were not scored as a team. The Wildcats had four players win individual awards during the event.

Meridian High School senior softball player Alaysia Barlow signed with Oakwood University in Huntsville, Alabama, on Wednesday, December 10, 2025. Barlow will continue her academic and athletic career as a student-athlete, marking an exciting next chapter in her journey.

MERIDIAN, MS. – The Meridian Public School District Board of Trustees voted on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, to approve Tony A. Vance as the new Head Football Coach for Meridian High School. Coach Vance brings more than two decades of experience as a successful educator, leader, and football coach across Mississippi and Alabama.

Meridian, MS. – Shelton Gandy announced his resignation as the head football coach at Meridian High School to the MHS Football team and coaching staff during a meeting this morning. Gandy made the decision to step down to pursue other opportunities.

The evening was filled with excitement, school spirit, and community pride as students, families, and fans gathered to celebrate the talented athletes and teams representing MHS this winter.

The Meridian High School community came together Friday night, September 12, 2025, to honor two legendary Wildcat football teams. During halftime of the Wildcats’ game against Starkville, members of the 1985 and 1990 MHS State Championship teams were recognized for their lasting impact on the program and the legacy they left for future generations.

The Meridian High School Boys 4x200 Meter Relay team was celebrated in a special ring ceremony on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. in the MHS Multipurpose Building. The Wildcats captured the top spot on May 3, 2025, at the MHSAA 7A State Track Meet.

Gaston Hewes Relay Results

The MHS Track teams had stellar showings at the Gaston Hewes Relays on Friday, April 11, 2025, in Gulfport, MS.

The MHS Boys Track team finished first overall out of thirteen teams, while the Lady Cats finished 2nd overall our of thirteen teams.

The MHS Wildcats made Senior Night one to remember, securing a commanding 14-4 victory over Forest at Q.V. Sykes Park. The day was a celebration of the team’s senior players and the MHS Diamond Girls, who were honored in front of an enthusiastic home crowd.

A festive atmosphere enveloped Meridian High School today as the community came together to celebrate senior softball player KaMya Dunn, who officially signed her letter of intent to continue her academic and athletic career at Xavier University in New Orleans.

The Meridian High Wildcats became the first MHSAA Boys’ 7A State Basketball champions with a thrilling 54-50 win over the Clinton Arrows on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at the Mississippi Coliseum.

The 2024 MPSD Middle School Basketball City Championships took place on Thursday, January 25, 2024, on the campus of Meridian High School. The 7th and 8th-grade teams from Magnolia Middle School hit the hardwood to see who would have Queen City bragging rights.

Coach Shelton Gandy was officially welcomed as the New Head Football Coach of the Meridian High School Wildcats during an introductory press conference on Monday, January 22, 2024. Coach Gandy greeted the MHS football players, fans, and the media during the event, which was held in the MHS Multipurpose Building. The Wildcats will open the 2024 football season at Ray Stadium against Quitman.

MHS' Lindsey latest to be named to Tomorrow's 25

Oxford, MS - (January 16, 2024) – Today, the Mississippi Excellence in Coaching Fellowship announced the 25 Coaches who have been selected for the 2023-24 class. The Coaching Fellowship, also known as Tomorrow’s 25, is hosted by the University of Mississippi School of Education in partnership with the Mississippi Association of Coaches (MAC) and the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA). Its mission is to annually select and invest in 25 coaches from across the state who have been deemed an emerging leader in the area of high school and middle school athletics.

The Meridian High Bowling team returned home to face Pearl in MHSAA Bowling action on Thursday, November 30, 2023.

The MHS Boys beat Pearl by a total pin score of 2296 to 2159. Jonathan Scarbrough led the boys bowling at 194, while Jabralen McClendon was two pins off Scarbrough's pace with 192.

1966-67 MHS Wildcats honored during Oak Grove game

The 1966-67 Wildcats of Mississippi Hall of Fame Coach Bob Tyler was the most dominant high school football team in Mississippi during the 1960s. MHS won two Big 8 Championships, and two State Championships and was ranked No. 5 nationally by Scholastic Roto magazine over the two-year period.
