Wildcats leap into 7A State Championship game
Leap Year proved to be lucky for the Meridian High Boys’ Basketball team as they will play for a State Championship for the first time since 2018.
The Wildcats used strong defense and key baskets to come away with a 41-31 victory over the Germantown Mavericks in the MHSAA Boys’ 7A State Semifinals on Thursday, February 29, 2024.
The game was tied 8-8 after the first quarter. The Wildcats scored nine points in the second quarter to take a 17-14 lead into halftime.
The third quarter saw the Wildcats take a 28-19 lead into the fourth quarter. In the final quarter, MHS scored 13 points in the final frame and held the Mavericks to 12 points.
DJ Johnson paced the Wildcats with 16 points in the victory.
The Wildcats will face the Clinton Arrows in the 7A Boys’ Title Game at 8 p.m. in the Mississippi Coliseum on Saturday, March 2, 2024.
