Norman named 2024 MAC Boys' Basketball Coach of the Year
Meridian High School Boys’ Basketball Coach Ron Norman has been named the 2024 Mississippi Association of Coaches Boys’ Basketball Coach of the Year.
Coach Norman is in his 8th year as head coach of the Wildcats, which saw the team become the first MHSAA Class 7A Boys’ Basketball Champion with a 54-50 win over Clinton on Saturday, March 2, 2024. Norman led the Wildcats to an overall (24-9) record for the 2023-2024 basketball season.
“This award is all about my players,” said Ron Norman, MHS Boys’ Basketball Coach. “Without them, I would not have received this honor. The award is just as much theirs as it is mine.”
This marks the second State Championship for the Wildcats under Coach Norman and the fourth appearance in the MHSAA State Championship game since 2016. The Wildcats have won four state championships in school history.
Coach Norman is no stranger to coaching in State Championship games, with appearances as head coach at Bay Springs in 2006 and back-to-back appearances while head coach at Wayne County, winning the title in 2011 and finishing as runner-up in 2012.
“Coach Norman always gets the most out of his players on and off the court, and this honor is acknowledgment of that hard work,” said Cheyenne Trussell, MPSD Athletic Director.
Over his 28 years of coaching, Coach Norman successfully led basketball programs at Raleigh, Bay Springs, Wayne County, Pascagoula, and Meridian.
Coach Norman will officially be honored during the Mississippi Association of Coaches Coach of the Year Banquet on Thursday, July 11, 2024.
