MHS, Northwest Chess Teams excel at MSCA State Championships

2026 MHS Chess Team at the MSCA Chess Championship.

The Meridian High School Chess Team won first place in the K-12 MSCA State Team Competition on Saturday, March 7, 2026. The Wildcats also took home several individual awards.

Best Female Player U500 - Camilla Barksdale, MHS 9th Grader

2nd Place: Varice Hughes MHS Senior and Team Captain

5th Place: Aaron Walker, MHS Senior and Team Captain

Individual U800 Awards

2nd Place (tie): Allen Huang, MHS Sophomore and Mikaylah Edwards, MHS Senior and Team Captain

8th Place: Joden Hudson, MHS Junior

Individual U500 Scores

1st Place: Javyn Key, MHS Junior

6th Place: Deveyun Holloway, MHS 9th Grader

Northwest Middle School placed 2nd in the Middle School Team Competition. Placing first was the Mississippi Academy of Innovation, while Partnership Middle School finished 3rd.

Students from Northwest took home several individual awards as well.

Lady Wildcats compete in MCA Girls Championship

The Lady Wildcat Chess Team competed in the MCA Girls Championship on Saturday, February 28, 2026, in Jackson, MS. The tournament, which was scored individually, saw several individual awards.
