MHS holds Ribbon Cutting for New Ray Stadium Turf
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
July 18, 2024- Guests were seeing blue as the Meridian Public School District held a Ribbon Cutting to officially reopen the playing surface at Ray Stadium on Thursday, July 18, 2024.
“This is a great day for the Meridian Public School District and Meridian High School Athletics,” said Dr. Amy Carter, MPSD Superintendent. “There is so much momentum in MPSD right now, thanks to our community. Not only do we have things happening in our athletic department, but just look around the district and you’ll see projects underway everywhere. We have two new classroom buildings at West Hills Elementary and Northwest Middle School that will open in time for the school year and so much more taking place across the entire district.”
The new turf is royal blue and is sure to evoke comparisons to the “Smurf Turf” made famous by Boise State University.
“We began talking about the need to replace the turf and we decided to look at doing something unique and that’s where the blue comes in,” said Dr. Cheyenne Trussell, MPSD Athletic Director.
The existing turf had been in use on the stadium since 2012 and had reached the end of its lifespan. The new playing surface, which costs $369,836, was installed by ACT Global and is a part of the district’s capital improvement plan for all of its facilities.
“We are so thankful to the businesses and community members who were vital in the turf being installed at Ray Stadium in 2012,” said Dr. Amy Carter, MPSD Superintendent. “We are excited to have a truly unique playing surface for our area.”
The new turf at Ray Stadium is one of the many projects ongoing across the district.
