The Meridian High School community came together Friday night, September 12, 2025, to honor two legendary Wildcat football teams. During halftime of the Wildcats’ game against Starkville, members of the 1985 and 1990 MHS State Championship teams were recognized for their lasting impact on the program and the legacy they left for future generations.

Players, coaches, and staff from both championship squads were welcomed back to Ray Stadium, where fans showed their appreciation with a standing ovation. These teams not only brought home state titles but also set the standard of excellence that continues to define Wildcat football today.

The 1985 team captured Meridian’s first state championship of the modern playoff era, while the 1990 Wildcats added another trophy just five years later, cementing the program’s reputation as one of the best in Mississippi high school football.

MHS Athletics and the Meridian Public School District expressed their gratitude to the former players and coaches for their dedication, perseverance, and the pride they brought to the Meridian community.

Friday night’s ceremony served as a reminder that once a Wildcat, always a Wildcat—and the tradition of excellence endures.
