Lady Wildcats' Volleyball looks to be stronger to start '24 season
The 2024 Meridian High School Volleyball season is shaping up to be an exciting one. With a mix of seasoned upperclassmen and promising new talent, the team is gearing up for a competitive and dynamic year. Under the guidance of Coach Jamie Buxton, the team has been training rigorously during the off-season, focusing on enhancing their skills, teamwork, and overall strategy.
“We are a tenacious squad that is willing to grow and learn in the sport of Volleyball,” said Jamie Buxton, MHS Volleyball Coach. “This year we are focusing on increasing our strength and conditioning to make us more explosive. With 4 returning starters, the plan is to utilize them in a leadership capacity and find 2 players to round out the starting group who will bring depth and a strong work ethic.”
Key Players:
- Our key contributers will be Kennedy Hudson who is the captain, Zyon Moffite, Diamond Ford and Taylor Ruffin. Each of these young ladies have shown great potential and are anticipated to make significant contributions to the team's success.
Season Goals:
- Strong Start: The team aims to start the season with a series of wins to build momentum.
- Team Cohesion: Developing a strong sense of unity and communication on the court is a top priority.
- Playoff Aspirations: The team’s ultimate goal is to secure a spot in the playoffs.
Schedule Highlights:
- Home Opener: The season kicks off with a home game against Kemper County on Monday, August 5, 2024. Matches will begin at 4:30 p.m. with Middle School, followed by JV at 5:30 p.m., and Varsity at 6:30 p.m.
- Key Matches: Mark your calendars for crucial matches against Brandon, Oak Grove and Pearl, which are expected to be thrilling contests.
- Senior Night: A special night to honor the contributions of the senior players will be held on Thursday, October 3, 2024, when the Lady Wildcats host Southeast.
